Communication and Culture

Growing up as a child I was raised in a diverse neighborhood so I do not find communicating with different groups and cultures difficult.  I look as people as all being human beings who need to be treated with respect.

Three strategies that I could use to help with communication more effectively with people are: 1. View there behaviors the way the see them, be open minded.  2.  Use the Platinum Rule, “Do to others as they themselves would like to be treated” being educators we run into all sorts of people we need to learn how to treat them how they  would like to be treated.  This way we will obtain a good communication with the people we help.
3. Do not criticize them because their beliefs and differences are not what you use to or have experienced in your culture.

  1. Tashana,

I enjoyed your strategies and we had several in common. The use of the "Platinum Rule" for example. Also we both agreed that we should not judge differing beleifs, but use our knoweldge of them to facilitate respectful communication.
